Here's what's new

08/25/03 I created a "CNC Road Map" to help myself and others see the relationship between the various components of a fully computerized machining process. You may download this map and use it for you rreference. Computer Aided machining: From concept to completed part

10/04/02 Initial site launch with the goal of planning a series of multimedia machining tutorials based on what I have learned.

09/15/02 After neglecting this hobby for a few months for other pursuits, I have cleaned out the shop and set up my equipment again so that I can resume my projects. I now have all of my equipment set up and I have installed the latest Dolphin CAD/CAM 7.0x with the new Windows turning module on my laptop. I'm anxious to test this new version along with the engraving features.

02/01/02 At the beginning of this year, Bill Griffin drove out to my house to help me setup my Mill and verify that it functions properly with my AhHa controller. We believe that my Lathe, threading attachment and Rotary axis are all working properly with the AhHa controller.

The next and most critical step in my learning is to verify that the Posts for my Mill & Rotary Axis and for the Lathe, which Michael Milligan (of Dolphin) sent to me late last year, are properly configured. In order to do this, I will need help creating various CAD/CAM files for parts that are within the size envelope that can be machined on my small Sherline Mill and Lathe.

I am comfortable creating geometry for my Mill in Dolphin and then generating the G-Code and testing it. I am not sure how to generate a suitable and thorough test for the Mill and Rotary Axis or for my Lathe. While the new Dolphin releases have added many new features and improved old ones, the tutorials and help files are behind the features of the product. (I suppose this is better than it being the other way around).

I am going to try to outline some end-to-end tutorials to help me test the process of going from Dolphin CAD to CAM to G-Code to my equipment.
