Arrival, setup, and first event
thumb20041119 - 001.jpg This afternoon we drove to ABC Middle School in Newhall, California. We followed the signs from the parking lot to the cafeteria. This is where we  to set up our "pit" area. The room was loud and very crowded. Teams had set up their playing fields all over the floor to practice. It was interesting to walk around and see many of the different robot designs that the teams had come up with. There were some very advanced designs. I saw a robot that had  an arm could move and pick up and put down things. We unpacked and setup our presentation and research boards.

We then got ready for our first competition: We prayed, we got the robot in the box, we checked the schedule, and we waited. It seemed like the wait took forever and we were really nervous at the time. Faith and I were first up. Faith was the pilot and I was the copilot. My job was to make sure that everything the base was going well, help Faith catch the robot, and make sure that she was aiming straight.

We quickly got the ball in the center basket. This gave us 50 points and it prevented the other team from getting the 50 points. We did very well on the rest of the missions, and we earned a total of 209 points. This put us in the lead early on.
